Plus Taxes & LicensingThis 1972 Dodge Challenger was sold new by Dodge Town Inc of Rapid City, South Dakota, and it is said to have been refurbished around 2002. Powered by a 318ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, the car is finished in blue with a white vinyl top over white vinyl upholstery. Edelbrock engine modifications include the intake manifold, carburetor, air cleaner, and rocker covers. Other equipment includes white side stripes, a sport hood, a rear spoiler, R/T badging, American Racing 17″ wheels, front disc brakes, power steering, the Light Group, a Kenwood CD stereo, aftermarket auxiliary instrumentation, tubular headers, and a dual exhaust system. The seller purchased the car in mid-2024. This Challenger is now offered with a window sticker, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Bright Blue Metallic (GB5), the car reportedly was repainted under prior ownership in 2002. Features include a white vinyl top, white side stripes, R/T badging, a deck-lid spoiler, a silver-colored tail panel, and a sport hood with securing pins as well as chrome bumpers, fender-mounted turn-signal indicators, a driver-side mirror, a flip-up fuel door, an aftermarket antenna, and quad exhaust outlets. Blemishes on the vinyl top and other imperfections are pictured in the gallery below, and the seller notes bubbling in front of the right-rear wheel and also on the vinyl top.
Chrome-finished American Racing 17″ wheels are mounted with 235/50 Goodyear front tires and 245/50 Kumho rear rubber; the wheels and tires are said to have been installed in 2022. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the car also is equipped with power steering.
The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in white vinyl, a shade that carries over to the door panels and the headliner. A Chrysler Solid State push-button AM radio is fitted in the dashboard, and a Kenwood CD stereo has been added below the ashtray. Other interior appointments include black carpeting, Challenger-branded black carpeted floor mats, a map light, and a heater. The driver-side interior door panel is cracked.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and alternator status. A group of aftermarket MW instrumentation attached below the dash is composed of a tachometer, an ammeter, and gauges for coolant temperature and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 84k miles, approximately 10 of which were added under current ownership.
The 318ci V8 is said to have been rebuilt and overbored in 2002, when an aftermarket camshaft was installed. Other modifications include an Edelbrock intake manifold, an Edelbrock carburetor, an Edelbrock air cleaner, chrome-finished Edelbrock rocker covers, an auxiliary electric cooling fan, and tubular headers. The carburetor and the intake reportedly were replaced in 2022.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission.
The fender tag indicates that the vehicle is a base Dodge Challenger hardtop (JH23) that left the factory equipped with a 318ci V8 featuring a two-barrel carburetor (E44) along with a three-speed automatic transmission (D34). The tag also reveals that the car was originally finished in Bright Blue Metallic (GB5) with a black full vinyl top (V1X) over front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black and white vinyl (B6XW).
