This 1957 Volkswagen Beetle has been restored with careful attention to originality including the correct colors, interior materials, and period accessories. Refinished in factory correct, VW Zertifikat listed Coral Red, the car celebrated its 58th birthday on October 19th. Seven days after completion it left Wolfsburg bound for delivery to the port of New York. The vehicle runs and drives excellently, benefits from recent brake work, and shows a lifetime mileage of 44,132 on the odometer.

Exterior

Coral Red is a rare color and a refreshing departure from the drab grays, tans, and olives that many early VW’s wore. The exterior features wide whitewall tires, sand colored steel wheels, and OEM hubcaps that work well in combination with a period-style wood slatted roof rack and rear window shade. The paint finish, sheet metal, chrome, glass, and other trim are in very good condition. The vehicle is cosmetically excellent with only minor blemishes and wear. Notable features include the low front turn signals, small taillamps, and distinctive oval rear window characteristic of these 1950s Type 1 Beetles.

Interior

The cabin is fitted with fresh upholstery in correct 2-tone colors, materials, and patterns, matched by OEM style small weave carpet. Additional interior features include an OEM Telefunken tube radio, period-correct under-dash parcel shelf, and Petri steering wheel with a distinctive sun and moon horn button. All instruments, switches, and lights work as designed, including wipers, horn, radio, and heater.

Mechanical Condition

Recent brake work includes all new shoes and hardware, while the 1200cc flat-four engine is both very clean and completely stock underneath the engine lid. The car starts easily and runs very well. The driving experience is characterized by tight suspension, good brakes, slop-free steering, and a smooth-shifting gearbox.
