🌟 Super Beetle Engineering Fresh Clutch Summer Ready$13,800
Plus Taxes & LicensingThis 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible was acquired in 2020 as an unfinished project with a repaint in yellow, a replacement tan and brown interior, and overhauled suspension and brakes. The refurbishment was completed in 2025 with the replacement of the 1.6L flat-four and the installation of a fresh Light Sand soft top. The vehicle shows 61k miles on the odometer and comes with a clean North Carolina title.
Exterior
The car is finished in yellow and features a replacement Light Sand convertible soft top, body-color bumpers, quarter vent windows, dual side mirrors, running boards, chrome rear stone guards, and a louvered rear engine cover.
Wheels and Brakes
The 15″ steel wheels with chrome VW-stamped covers have been sand blasted and repainted and are mounted with Thunderer Mach 1 tires. The car was factory equipped with a MacPherson strut and coil spring front suspension in place of the standard Beetle’s torsion bar setup. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes at all four corners.
Interior
The front bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in tan cloth contrasted by a brown dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Appointments include a cabin heater, front and rear seatbelts, EMPI-style window cranks, and a shift knob with a Wolfsburg crest. The radio has been removed.
Instrumentation
The four-spoke Grant GT steering wheel fronts a 100-mph VDO speedometer with an inset fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 61k miles. The speedometer is currently inoperable.
Engine and Drivetrain
The replacement air-cooled 1.6L flat-four was installed after being sand blasted and refinished. The cylinder head was refurbished, the carburetor and generator were rebuilt, and the carburetor, distributor rotor and cap, ignition wires, spark plugs, and heater and vent hoses were replaced. An oil change was performed in April 2025.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate were replaced and the transaxle fluid was changed during the refurbishment process.
